Cruising the Pacific Ocean (Wednesday, March 07)

Today we awoke to a temperature of 56oF.  The meteorological information that scrolls across the TV screen in our stateroom continues, as it has since the beginning of our trip, to show "NA" for values.  Not a problem.  I bring my own indoor/outdoor thermometer.  During numerous cruises, knowing the actual temperature before leaving our stateroom in the morning has been helpful.

We also bring insulated coffee mugs which I would note have gotten envious stares during my morning trip to fill them on days we do not rely on room service.

While Pam was still abed with her coffee and looking out the window, she suddenly shouted "Thar she blows!"; well maybe something more like, "Oh look at that!"  Several whales were spouting about 100 yards from the ship.  Given the sea state - it was somewhat lumpy today - we could not see them rolling and so had no clue on what type of whales were passing us, headed in the opposite direction.

This morning the sky was a uniform light gray with 10/10th cloud coverage.  It was more like a fog with 3-4 miles of surface visibility.  It dissolved in the early afternoon giving us blue sky and unlimited visibility that held right through sunset.

The ship pitched all day long, at times sending a shudder through it when encountering one of the larger swells.  "Privacy" signs popped up on a number of stateroom doors.  Green apples and saltines were probably the fare du jour in those cabins.

The absence of a structured tour yesterday and a sea day today provided a nice mid-trip break to get caught up on lots of little things that cumulatively needed to get done.
